If you’re juicing, you probably know the importance of adding greens to your recipes. Unfortunately, most people are probably not adding enough greens to fully reap the benefits of these incredible vegetables. I’ve included a few green smoothie recipes at the end of this article, but I highly recommend you obtain a copy of an excellent book by Victoria Boutenko, the name of which is Green for Life. This book is an updated version of her very popular Green Smoothie Nutrition.Green for Life Image

What I found enlightening about this book is the fact that Ms. Boutenko really did her homework when researching the material for the book. It’s not just a collection of recipes that happen to taste good, but a collection of much in-depth research information that’s easily digestible by the reader. This work was obviously not just a book for the sake on making a buck, yet a labor of love using information obtained as a result of the author trying to help her family’s many serious health problems.

One thing that hit me like a ton of bricks in just the first few pages was the information provided on chimpanzees. Actually the human – chimpanzee relationship. You probably know humans share 99.4% of their DNA with chimpanzees, so wouldn’t it make sense that a diet that is considered healthy for chimpanzees would also be healthy for humans? Using information provided by the Jane Goodall Institute, as well as that from many zoos and other sources, the author determined that up to 50% (depending on the season) of the diet of chimpanzees in the wild is made up of greens. So it’s probably safe to say that most humans are severely lacking in much of the beneficial nutrition available from greens. We’re quick to infect chimpanzees with our human diseases, and experiment on them with various drugs, yet we’ve never considered the importance of the diet that provides these human-like creatures with such incredible natural health.

So grab a copy of Green for Life, I believe for about $10 it will be some of the best money you’ve ever spent.
